A mobile app designed to connect readers through shared book events, live readings, and interactive book clubs

Meet & Read is a mobile app concept created by our team of five in my third-year UX/UI design course. The goal was to make it easier to discover, organize, and participate in book-sharing events. From live readings to casual book swaps, the app brings like-minded readers together into one cohesive platform.

Information about book-related events is fragmented, making it difficult for users to discover and participate in them effectively. How can we centralize this information to enhance user engagement and community participation?

Design Process

  • Conducted user research through surveys and interviews, targeting avid readers aged 18–25.

  • Created wireframes and user flows in Figma, designing with community interaction and clarity in mind.

  • Iterated based on feedback from 30+ test users using the “Think Aloud” method and direct navigation tasks.

Preliminary Design

The initial design of Meet & Read focused on building out the interface and organizing basic navigation. At this stage, our main priority was ensuring users could join or create book-sharing events easily. The app featured a home screen with tabs for nearby events, saved reads, and a simple profile system. While visually basic, it laid the foundation for a strong UX structure.

Final Iteration

After user testing, we refined the UI to be visually appealing and added features like in-app event reminders, community chats, and category filtering. We cleaned up the colour palette, fixed usability issues, and added login options for accessibility. The final design strikes a balance between simplicity and depth, making it easy for both casual and committed readers to engage.

Conclusion

Meet & Read rethinks how readers connect beyond the page. With a centralized approach to event discovery and participation, the app bridges digital design with real-world interaction. By combining thoughtful research, inclusive features, and modern design principles, our team created a concept that celebrates both community and literature.
